Automatic settings

Using the [Win] + C key combination the Settings menu will appear. There, click on the Network icon. Make sure that the Wi-Fi service is turned on, after which select eduroam from the list of available networks.

Make sure that Connect automatically is ticked, after which click on the Connect button.

In the Sing in window enter your SZIE ID and password, according to the following syntax: szieID@szie.hu. For employees this consists of 3 letters and 4 numbers (e.g.: Tes0000@szie.hu), while for students it is identical with the Neptun identifier (e.g.: neptuncode@szie.hu). Then click on the OK button.

Windows will display Connected under eduroam, after the connection was successful.

Manual settings

From the Control Panel open the Network and Sharing Center. Here click on Set up a new connection or network option.

When asked to choose a connection option select Manually connect to a wireless network.

In the Manually connect to a wireless network window for the Network name type eduroam, also set:

  • Security type to WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type to AES

After this click the Next button.

Select Change connection settings from under Successfully added eduroam.

On the Connection tab check the Connect automatically when this network is in range option.

Then select the Security tab.

From the drop-down list for Choose a network authentication method choose Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP).

Click on the Settings button.

Check the Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate option. Also from the Trusted Root Certification Authorities list select the AddTrusted External CA Root option.

From the Select Authentication Method drop-down list select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2).

Make sure that the Enable Fast Reconnect checkbox is checked and click on the Configureā€¦ button.

Uncheck the box next to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) then click the OK button.

Then click OK to close the Protected EAP Properties window.

On the eduroam Wireless Network Properties click the Advanced settings button.

On the 802.1X settings tab, under Specify authentication mode, from the drop-down list select User authentication then click OK.

Close the eduroam Wireless Network Properties window by clicking on the OK button.

After this click Close to close the Manually connect to a wireless network window.
